Planets and gods

About 2,300 years ago the astronomer Aristotle gave the planets
names of Greek gods. Aristotle did his best to match the characters the gods
where supposed to have with what he knew about planets- there speed, brightness,
and colour. Later greek writing about the planets was translated into the Latin
language, so the greek planet names were changed to the names of the equivalent
Roman gods. Hermes became Mercury, Aphrodite became Venus, Ares became Mars,
Zeus became Jupiter, and Cronos became Saturn.

VENUS

Roman name for the goddess of love, and beauty, which outshone her rivals. This planet was considered to be the brightest and most beautiful planet or star in the heavens. It is even described to look as brilliant as a diamond.
Venus wasnt noiticable for a while because of the clouds that covered it. No telescope could see this planet for years and years. Fiery volcanoes cover this planet, and it is extremely hot.It once had oceans but they evaporated. The atmosphere on Venus is so strong, it weighs down almost anything.
